Samarkand, Khiva, Bukhara solo & don’t like being rushed on tour
Salaam ladies
I was wondering if anyone travelled to Uzbekistan solo?
I would like to see Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara. I’ve done some research already regarding travel there, but I’m curious to know about other perspectives . I’m debating to go by myself in the fall. I need time and usually I don’t like being rushed on a tour. I’m not sure yet…
All the best everyone, W’salaam
Was scared of the language barrier so opted for tour. Would do solo the second time
I went to Uzbekistan whole leg trip with a tour last year cause I was scared of the language barrier. And I didnt want to think of booking separate tours for different cities since theyre all historic and theres many things to do. But now that Ive seen it I would definifely go there again by myself. to Khiva esp. that place took my breath away and I felt once was not enough. So I can do it at the slow pace I need. The trains are fast. Super safe. I met a filipino teacher mid age on her summer break traveling solo there and we meet again in the airport, hers back to manila and me to seoul korea. Serendipity! I went to kazakh by myself almaty, did trips by booking on viator on my own prior coming into tashkent and that place… also unforgettable. Dont discount the neighboring countries too.
Languages in Uzbekistan
People are so friendly there and can help you if needed. But there is a language barrier – mostly Uzbek or Russian is spoken there. In Tashkent you may find English speakers. So you’ll deffo need a translate app.
Plus the food!
Went there solo last year. Most of them speak Uzbek or Russian. I used Google translate. People are kind and welcoming. Food is really good.
Solo with google translate
I’m thinking about doing this solo with google translate…..thanks for sharing your experience I really appreciate it.
yes you can do it! I can give you some recommendations if you want. I did Taskent, Samarkand and Bukhara. Used afrosiyob train and Yandex (like Uber). If you’re adventurous enough, try visiting the seven lakes. I kinda regret it for not doing it.
