Planning to travel to Vietnam in October (Ho Chi Minh) – any tips/must dos/must visits? Also is it relatively halal or vegetarian-friendly?
My experience in North Vietnam
I’ve been to the North and difficult to get non-pork contaminated foods, but there were some veg restaurants in Hanoi (if I remember name will send) there are also eateries eith single item foods (they only sell 1 fish noodle dish) nice experience.
Depends where you go, I have been to South but food in the North was very healthy and if you’re not with a local just ensure you ask specially for vegetarian food (went a while ago and don’t recall any halal restaurants, might have now though).
Muslim town near Ben Than Market
Hi Ruhee! Love Vietnam. HCMC is great, there’s a little muslim town with a few great restaurants you can find near the Ben Than Market.
I’d recommend going to the Chu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong River, I believe there are some halal tours that are offered. Private ones usually go for $50-$80 and it can vary between a one to two day trip. There’s a few museums, stores in old buildings, lots to explore most definitely. A couple of tips: make sure to have data/internet as some drivers/taxi/motorcycles could try to rip you off – use the GrabApp to get around as they have fixed rates and if you’re at the market haggling don’t show bigger notes in your wallet. I hope you have a great time! Absolutely loved my time in HCMC and am planning on going in December!
