Unlike Cairo, Aswan is much slower paced and people are much nicer. The city has several historical sites, temples, and islands. The views and food are amazing. I’m skipping Cairo on my next trip to Egypt and coming straight to Aswan and Luxor.

A very beatiful place to relax and enjoy the sun during winter.
We felt very safe and happy.
The local market is great it has unique and authentic goods.
The philae Temple is great it has spots to take photos and great views.
We enjoyed the Botonical Garden very much as it has plants from all over the world.
The feluca ride is one of the best things we enjoyed but first you have to agree on the price.

Tombs of the Nobles were really neat if you can make it over to the other bank. Watch out for the camel guys there though. We got roped into $50 camel rides.
Aswan was probably our least favorite stop in Egypt. Harassment by salespeople was higher here than at the Great Pyramids, and much higher than Luxor! We couldn't walk anywhere at anytime of the day without a salesperson walking with us for several blocks. And as soon as they were done, someone else would take over. Its too bad, I think the corniche could be a really pretty walk!

Aswan is pleasant pretty city on upper Nile within easy day excursion to Abu Simbel. Don't ride camel at Giza, ride one at Aswan out into the desert. Ride felucca boat around Elephantine Island. Eat at King Jamaica restaurant. Stop to see unfinished obelisk

Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
I didn’t realize that the hotel was undergoing a little construction. It looked like they were upgrading their ramp. This meant we had to carry our bags up the stairs to the lobby.
The property is beautiful and has a terrific view of the town and we could see the Nile from our room. The restaurant was very good- we had dinner there.
BTW the construction noise never bothered us. We couldn’t hear it at all.

If you are doing the Initiatic path, Elephantine Island is so perfect. We stayed at Mango Tree (feel like exotic move stars) and Nubian Dreams (also a restaurant but we scored their top floor room and that is super fun) We also stayed at Nubian Palace, oh my gosh. Take a little private ferry and go to that place. Its so memorable. Philae temple was set up from our host at Nubian Palace (which we usually never do but she is a badass and handles it so you don't have to negotiate to and from the ferry marina) Stay on the west bank. Never the east. Its so loud and full of hustle. The west bank is like real Egypt. Lovely. Easy to start the temple path to Abu Simbel by hopping on a local large bus. Fun, cheap, easy. (Its a little more coming back but its all very cheap so be nice and accept the system) From here you can take a train, bus or private taxi to Kom Ombo and Edfu as you make your way to Luxor. (ALSO STAY ON THE WEST BANK in luxor) What a lovely quiet and profoundly spiritual adventure.
We were pleasantly surprised by this comfy hotel! It is in the perfect location. If you don’t want to stay on elephantine island to do excursions, this is the place! It is literally RIGHT across from the ferry to the island and in walking distance of great restaurants on the river. The room is comfy and the staff literally bent over backwards to help get us to Abu Simbel when our tour cancelled on us and we were leaving the next day! Literally they saved our trip lol. Definitely recommend if in Aswan!
I saw this hotel last year so I knew where it was, right on the west bank of the Nile. I had the best room, which is Nubian style and had its own private large terrace with chairs, a table and sunbeds. I write and was able to work whenever I wanted from here. At night the cosy room with a nice bed provides a good sleep.
The staff just cannot do enough for you, whatever you want they will try to provide, plus a bit more. Mohammed, the chef, is the best in all Egypt!
Staff were extremely polite and helpful. Especially thanks to Ahmed, we could spend great time there. The guest house is located in the heart of Nubian Village, people are great. Very clean and cute rooms. Good value for a cost efficient trip. But the greatest part was the breakfast. It was humble but the best, especially comparing similar hotels and guest houses in Egypt. We will always remember this cute village and Lawanda Nubian House. Thank you!
This is a lovely chilled out place on the very relaxing Elephantine Island. A beautiful oasis from the hectic rest of Aswan. Everything was really clean and convenient. The staff helped us arrange a trip to Abu Simbel. The ferry across from Aswan is quick and very cheap, I'd 100% recommend staying on the island, it's so lovely and will give you a chance to rebuild your energy between forrays into Aswan and other parts of Egypt!
The location for this hotel is ideal. It is right on the Main Street and just across the street from the Panorama Point. Mena, the owner is happy to arrange travel for you to the many sights around Aswan. We went by private car to Abu Simbel and to Philea. Both were amazing! The sunset felucca ride with Ahmed was lovely and relaxing. Don’t miss eating at the Crepe Restaurant just next door; it’s delicious and reasonably priced.
The hotel has an excellent location on the shores of the Nile River in Aswan. It has a beautiful swimming pool and a nice restaurant and shisha bar—well-trained, and kindly efficient staff.
I had a problem with my booking dates, but the manager was willing to find a solution and accommodate my request to change the dates. We spent 3 memorable days in the hotel. I highly recommend the Obelisk Hotel for friends.
One of the best experience i had in Egypt
The location is perfect just 2 minuts from the public ferry dock , very nice terrace on the Nile River and very clean room and comfortable with AC 😄
Wifi very good may be the best i had in Egypt
Mohammed took care of me alot , he can arrange all trips around Aswan and Luxor with excellent prices
I really enjoyed my stay at La terrace and will come back soon
Mohamad the owner is a true star. He went above and beyond for us booking all the activities we needed at a competitive price and with honest people. The house itself and it's nice and cosy and has a beautiful terrace overlooking the Nile bits conveniently located a few meters away from the dock and breakfast is very good and comes in generous portions (typical Egyptian breakfast)
Recommended 100%
Beautiful location in the heart of Aswan. Wonderful hotel with very attentive and caring staff. Everyone from the management to the cooking staff made you feel very welcome and genuinely happy to see you. We loved the staff everywhere especially Ahmed-Khalaf in the dining area who brought us special food every night and French fries for my 10 year old. we loved every minute of our stay there.
Hotel with probably the most beautiful location in Aswan. Beautiful views of the Nile, its islands and sand dunes on the west bank. Not far from the Old Cataract hotel. The hotel forms a complex with the Basma hotel, it is possible to use nice common areas. Clean rooms. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. Recommendation.
Best hotel so far in Egypt! The location in the Nubian village of Elephantine Island is great/calm and the rooms are clean.
The highlight is really the owner Saef who is the kindest person we met: he welcomed us with delicious drinks and was so helpful in organizing trips to Abu Simbel and felouca.
Highly recommended!
Mahmoud made our stay a delight! he is extremely knowledgeable and connected us with many sites and recommendations. the hotel on Elephantine Island was comfortable and very clean. access to Aswan sight excellent. the breakfasts are wonderful and enormous. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place.
The hotel is one of my favorite places on earth.. luxury, historic, beautiful restaurants, (more on that in a minute) ,gorgeous rooms heavenly pool. And the VIEW! Spectacular.. this was our 2nd time at the old cataract. And it is the most beautiful and best hotel in egypt.
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help us and make our stay enjoyable Thank you Mohamed for being so kind and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Aswan.
This the bad place I have every been since I strated using booking
The price is so exenpsive .The hotel is not clean I will never advise any friend or family to stay there .The only thing I like is that the staff are so friendly
The place its self is absolutely gorgeous! The hotel is stunning and in a stunning location (a bit far from the town/city of Aswan, but in an absolutely amazing Nubian village.) The food it good. It is a nice and calm place.
What can I say . Best hospitality in Aswan , the hotel is the perfect place stay Mohamed and his crew are the best host there is . Will definitely come back . Thank you so much for the wonderful memories
Fabian
the hotel had been always responsive on my messages and needs. they helped to book all the tours and trips I needed near Aswan, with reasonable price. room is comfortable and clean.
Beautiful room, clean and great facilities. One of the best 5 star hotels. There was a wide selection for their buffet breakfast. Staff were really helpful and friendly.
We loved Aswan and the Basma hotel. The view from the balcony was amazing! The hotel’s staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. Thank you!
